Jaaved Jaaferi opens up on Hindi language debate, saying, “Constitutionally, there is no one language”

Recently, we have seen a heated debate going on social media on the Hindi language after Ajay Devgn and Kiccha Sudeep engaged in a Twitter war when Sudeep said, “Hindi is no more our national language.” This remark has directly hit the Hindi speakers of the country including several well-known celebrities, including Ajay Devgn, who was just seen in SS Rajamouli’s RRR.

In a Hindi tweet, he slammed Kiccha, who responded by emphasising the need of respecting all Indian languages. Now, Jaaved Jaaferi also joins this debate by voicing his opinion on this matter.

In a conversation with India Today, Jaaved Jaaferi, the most recent celebrity to join the debate, stated, “I read up a bit about it. Constitutionally, there is no one language. That’s what I looked at. I was looking at the official Indian languages and the constitution gives no language a status of the national language. I came across that. I was even under the impression that Hindi is the national language. But I just looked up that the constitution gives no language the status of a national language.”

He added, “And there are 22 official languages. Out of which, Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Urdu and Sindhi, all these are the official languages. See, the point is about unity in diversity. That was and is the beauty of this country. There are so many religions but there is no national religion. There is no national language. You have a national bird or a national flower. The future of the country is the simulation of everything and I think no other country has that.”

On the work front, Jaaved Jaaferi will next be seen in Escaype Live. Actors Siddharth, Waluscha De Sousa, and others play significant parts in the online series. On May 20, the online series will premiere on Disney+Hotstar.
