Farhan Akhtar to Debut in MCU with Ms Marvel, To Play a ‘Guest-Starring Role’

Bollywood multi-hyphenate Farhan Akhtar will be part of the cast of Disney Plus’ forthcoming series Ms. Marvel. Details regarding the character are not revealed, though his participation has been said to be as a guest-starring role.

Ms. Marvel is going to premiere on June 8 and introduces Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, aka the titular role, who is a Muslim American teenager living in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a grabby fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a superhero mega-fan with a giant imagination — especially when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet, Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home —- that is, until she receives super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.

The cast also features Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha.

As for Akhtar, the actor, director, screenwriter, singer, producer and television host is most recently going to direct Jee Le Zaraa, featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif. He also has a multi-year partnership with Netflix via his and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Mumbai-based Excel Entertainment.

Ms. Marvel episodes are helmed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Bisha K. Ali are the executive producers. Co-executive producers for the series are Sana Amanat and Trevor Waterson, and Bisha K. Ali is the head writer.
